Things We've Learned...

"You took my diapers away and now you want to me to go to the bathroom on this thing....HMMMM Let me think about it"

"What is that I hear?......At last, the sweet sound of success"

The day got off to a pretty good start, Sarah made it until 12:30pm without any accidents....we didn't have a perfect afternoon, but it is only day one....and I would not expect it to be that easy!!

That being said, we have learned a couple of things along the way:

The water must be running at all times....

Sarah insists that I sit and go to the bathroom(I really pretend, but I won't tell if you don't)while she is taking care of business on her little potty (This is why there will be no video to accompany this post....sorry Tonggu Momma)

I put her down for a nap in undies...probably not a good idea on day one, but I kept thinking...cold turkey, we are not going back to diapers...too confusing. If anyone has nap time suggestions, I would love to hear them.

If you think you have purchased enough underpants to get you through the day...you didn't....Go buy more.

And last, but not least, if you think your child will be thrilled with only one celebratory M&M......think again...

A girl after my own heart! I could never stop with just one. Could you?

I guess I will also be adding M&M's to my shopping list.....this jar will surely be gone in no time!

Sounds like a good start! And I'm with you -- 1 M&M??? That's no reward -- no one can eat just one. Maybe you could give her one handful!! Definitely put M&MS on your grocery list. Have fun.

Yea, she's off to a good start. M & M's worked great with my older daughter. Also, stickers really helped!

Looks like you are off to a great start! I put pull-ups on Eli for nap and nightime for a couple of months and then he decided he didn't like them and we've been going with just the undies ever since (just started this last week)(wink)

I can't believe I didn't think of this till now - quilted underwear and rubber pants. A godsend. They protect the couch and sop up more than regular underwear. Aside from that they are intensively uncomfotable when wet, encouraging the child to keep dry.

Dalton was trained in no time using this method.

They can also be put down for a nap with the rubber pants on, leaving you a greater peace of mind.

LOL - these image are priceless! I just love the expressions and the way that you captioned them! I so miss M&M's at our house - I couldn't eat just one either :D

Cute potty pictures! I am with Sarah -- you can't just have one M&M. You better start buying them in bulk!

Well, I'm no help on the nap thing. Amelia wore pull-ups for naps 6-months after she was potty trained! She still wears them at night, I just don't trust she can make it all night and she only does about half the time.

The M&M's didn't last a day at my house...I don't even like them either, just ate them because they were here.

Okay, okay, you're really making me think I should give this is a go with my Sarah.

I never thought about trying M&Ms as a reward. Maybe I'll do that. I could try next week. It's finding the days at home that is hard... But I bet we could make it work.

Mine doesn't take naps often, so that won't be an issue for us. Were she to happen to fall asleep, I wouldn't worry because she only ever naps for about an hour and she rarely ever pees (she's naked a lot). So I guess what I'm saying is have your Sarah just give up her naps. Oh, wait, that's probably not what you wanted to hear. ;)

I can't even stop with one bag. :) I get the XXL bag at Costco! Looks like she's catching on. What a cute post!

Love it! Sounds like a pretty good start...at least she went at least once! And hey, who could resist M&M's? In my professional opinion ( and I happen to be an expert on all things candy!)...M&M's are quite possibly the world's perfect candy! Good luck!

Well we are not there yet with Clara Beth, she occasionally uses the potty because Emanuiel does(he came potty trained, how great is that!)

I would just keep an endless supply of those m&m's.

Yeah Horray Sarah! Lots of M&Ms and a patient mama- all she really needs.

The cute undies helped us- can't get the featured Princess or care bear wet- heaven forbid.

Thanks for visiting my blog.

Sounds like a successful first day! Training was along time ago around here, but I remember putting Pull Ups on them at night and calling them "sleeping underwear"
Here's to day two....

Jennifer said...

Sounds like a good 1st day.... Looks like a run for M&M's tonight. We used pull-ups. I called them "Big Boy" underwear for sleeping..Never said "diaper" or even "pull-up"....I think we only used them at naps for a couple of months, then at night for about 4. (more for me, than him-just in case...)
Good Luck! ;)

we use one white chocolate swirled chip with red or green. Jane has never figured out to ask for more than one!

I am with you on the panties, many, many, many will be needed~

LOl that a girl Sarah!!! And can you save me a few blue ones??? I love M&M's.
As for naps, we use pull-ups.

Sarah's facial expressions are hilarious!

I could never go the M&M route, because I would eat them all. (Same reason I don't buy Halloween candy until the afternoon of the 31st.)

Hope you have another successful day!

She is a girl after my own M&M heart.;)
It would probably be better to purchase 5 or 100 bags of the Halloween packaged M&Ms. That way she gets 1 "package" of them...much more satisfying than just 1 M&M. No girl can eat just 1 M&M. It's just not natural.;)

And she's doing great! Remember what I said, "She won't go to college in a pull-up." ;) Amen?:)

1 lousy M&M? LOL! I wouldn't be thrilled either.
For nap time I used to buy training underwear (I found it at Target). They look like regular underwear, but they're "padded" in the front and on the bottom. Or, Pull-Ups worked well, too.
If I don't talk to you before the weekend - enjoy!
Hugs,
Michaela

Do whatever it takes! Keep those candies in the house at all times!

I think it's a good idea to go cold turkey for nap times (no pull ups) but oh, how I hate to wash all that bedding. I still do pull ups for night time....

Now for my question: Do YOU get an M&M too after going at the same time?

:)

Once she gets the hang of it, you'll have to get some type of different treat. The more she goes, the more she'll get a sugar high.....lol!!!!

When I potty trained my daughter (now 16 yr old), I had a poster and used an old wipe container and filled it with lots of fun stickers. Back then, Barney was the big thing! I'm sure you could let her choose stickers at the store and then cut them all apart and put them in the wipe container. Each time she has a success on her "throne" then she gets to choose a sticker and put it on her poster. This worked for my girl. When she filled the poster, then she got to go pick something out at the store. A toy, a new pair of frilly underpants, something to keep her focused on the job at hand.

Love the post! Too cute! I suggest easy ups for naps and try to have her tinkle before and don't drink before nap, and of course a plastic sheet to protect the mattress under the sheets and a towel on top.

Ha, ha, ha...just like Caroline and the jar of pumpkin candy!!! Two peas in a pod! Bryce was such a hard sleeper that he had to wear pull ups for naps and bedtime right up until before K started. We tried it all and nothing worked for him! Love and hugs, L

You just capture the most precious photos of Sarah. She makes the most adorable faces!! Way to go, Sarah!!

Mia has been potty-trained for months, but I still put a pull-up on her for naps and bedtime. I'm not big on clean up.

And I agree, one M&M? What's up with that? I could never relate to just giving one either.

She is adorable!!
I am hoping our little one can be bribed with Cheerios (less sugar rush!). We shall see if she holds out for chocolate! We are "informally" training now. No cold turkey for us (yet!).

Congrats on your progress!

Yea Sarah, you can do it!
Hang in there mom, it will happen! We did the pull-up thing at nap. For my boys, when I encouraged one, it took forever and when I let the other one do it in his own time, he was older, but it literally happened overnight! You just have to figure out what works for her, she'll get it!
And no, to just one m&m! lol
(cute photo!)
