The other day I started to think about what it is that I really love about photography.
Yes, I love taking photos and working with children and families. I also love seeing joy on the faces of Mom and Dad when they see their beautiful children in print.....
but that is not what I am talking about.
I am talking about actually looking at a photo....and not only my photos, photos of other enthusiasts, bloggers, and photographers......pro and amateur.
What is it that captivates me....
What draws me into the picture??
EMOTION
It is as pure and simple as that.
I love when you look at a photo and you just get a feeling that washes over you as if you were right there at that moment in time as the camera snapped.
You don't need to see a facial expression to catch the mood of the photo
....and you don't even need to see the entire person!!
Sometimes it is the tiniest detail that intrigues me.
Like a little girl wrapped around her Daddy's finger!
.....and other times it is the stunning beauty that is looking me straight in the eye as she holds her "emotion" in her precious little hands!
So what is it that you love about photography?
A special thanks to all of the families I had the pleasure of photographing this weekend who have allowed me to share some previews here on the blog. I am still buried in photos that need to be processed and will be posting just a few more over the next couple days. More cuteness coming soon:).

I love the connection you can see. Connections. I love when you take a picture of someone, and later you are looking thru and you see this intense emotion in their eyes. Something you might have missed in the quickness of the shoot. I love that. I love when I capture people and I can feel their love for one another. Sometimes I can see it in their smiles, or their eyes, or even in their finger brush. That is my favorite.
I also love that we are capturing a moment. A moment in time that will forever be remembered.
LOVE your shoot. What a gorgeous little girl and beautiful family. So special!
I totally agree! I love photos that make me feel something. It's all about the little details.
As always, your photos are lovely!

Exactly Lisa. I love the feeling of a frozen moment where I can almost transport myself somewhere in the picture.
These images are stunning. Oh, the first one with the back pose. I love it! So serene.
Loved to see more of these from your recent shoots. Can't wait.
Happy Wednesday, my friend.
xoxo
Beautiful shots! Your words on emotions and photos are so true!
I love the picture of the little toes! Such playfulness!
I love just capturing moments. The moments in Childhood that you always want to remember and with photographs you can. On a personal level I want my children to look back and see that I captured their special moments, little moments and milestones as best as I could.
I love your photography. It has given me great inspiration to get back out and start taking more photographs again.

These pictures are truly amazing Lisa. That first one - breathtaking. For me, photography is capturing a moment in time that you cannot get back again. I want to remember everything. Especially everything about my little girl. I agree about the emotion. I love a photograph that makes me feel something special.
You have such a gift. It's just amazing to look at your photos. Yes, emotion can be felt in pictures, but in YOUR pictures especially!
I linked up this week!

Those are gorgeous photos, truly! It's so cool to see how you connect with the families you photograph.
My favorite is the one of the little feet on the chair. So precious!
Beautiful pictures. I agree, capturing the emotion, freezing that moment in time, is one of the best parts about photography. So precious!
Thanks for inspiring me with your wonderful talent and amazing photography! I just love looking at the images and emotions you are able to capture!
Your pictures certainly take my breath away! They are so . . . amusingly beautiful, even when you can see their faces! So very nice!

hello...your blog has just become amazing. i love it, and your photography has grown by leaps and bounds. i know you are so proud of your work. i absolutely love the new layout and all these photos.
been missing you. can't seem to catch up with life around here!
There is something about black and white that makes time stop, makes ME stop ... and really appreciate the moment. Like you said it captivates a single moment like a breath frozen in crystals in the air. No color to distract. Just the moment. Frozen in time.
Perfectly said...and those are exactly the images I love also...I don't always need the ones that the child is smiling perfectly...to me I love it when they are just being them. Have been loving all of your photos on Facebook...such an inspiration. Wanna come take some of my kids ;)
Lisa! Those are outstanding. I can't wait to see more. I love photograhy becasue I want my pictures to look like yours :)! You are very talented!
Hi Lisa. Yes you are so correct ~ it is the "emotion" you feel when looking at a photo! THAT'S when you know you are a TRUE ARTIST! And take it from one artist to another...I think you and I are both filled wtih a lot of emotions lol! As always such beautfiul B&Ws! I am really going to have to start getting back into the swing of things with our blog. Now that I have my new notebook up & running & YES connected to the www ~ I must keep up...for I don't only have three blogs/web sites I must keep up with but ~ four (I know call me crazy but it is just a little web site I set up to record the many of my family's favorite recipes but alos a few of my own ;) Hope you are having a great week & can't wait to hear the news this coming Friday! Love ya!
You hit the nail on the head! I do love capturing the memories. Have a wonderful Wednesday!
Beautiful images! Bet the family was so thrilled!! :)
Janet
Lisa, these are such beautiful images. I am sure your client was so, SO happy!! I especially love the little finger wrapped around her daddy. Precious!! Yes, I love capturing these special moments with families that evoke an emotional response from the viewer and also capturing true personality that just shines through in the photos. I LOVE being able to capture a single moment forever.
I also love the emotion aspect of a photo...definitely my favorite part.
I love looking back years and years later to remember the moment...and the emotion of the moment.
I love the moments, such teeny tiny moments that I strive to capture of my day to day. They are so fleeting and photographs are magical in that they hold them still forever. Your post and photographs are beautiful and yes, so full of emotion...priceless. wishing you well friend. :)
I love the feet! Little feet are great.
Oh my word, these are so stinking cute, I'm sure their parents will be THRILLED! I absolutely adore the first communion one. Great job, girl!!!
Try not to die of shock that I already have my post up and it's not even dark yet, LOL!
Love ya!
I know exactly what you mean. It is so very true, that a picture can speak a thousand words. Great photos Lisa. That little girl is gorgeous!
Beautifully written and photographed. Isn't that the real reason we capture memories and love to look at photos (old and new)...to remember the moments and the emotions? Just beautiful!!
Hi LIsa, I never thought about what I like in a photo, but I'll take your word for it that emotion is the thing, cos I just adore your photos.
That last one of Sarah is amazing.
And you have such a talent for capturing the emotion.
Great job Lisa!! I love them all but I really like the first communion one too.
Fingers crossed Friday!
Love ya!!
Love it..
You do such a wonderful job..
Love you ..
I totally agree! I love photos that make me feel something. It's all about the little details. you have the right eye for a perfect picture. not to mention your beautiful subjects
You are amazingly talented!
I share your sentiments 100%! I'm still having a hard time picking out my favorite among these 4... Happy Mother's Day!
i love how you capture the raw emotion in your photos! It is so true that when I look back at pictures - I always remember how I felt that day - rarely does it matter if the picture is/was perfect!
