Pat and I took the kids up to the Apple Orchard on Saturday with some friends. It was a quick trip and I didn't take as many photos as I had hoped, but we did have some fun and of course, came home with LOTS and LOTS of apples!
Before we left, Sarah asked for her own special basket, because she does not like the big cardboard boxes that they give you to take into the field. We thought this one was just her size:)
Pat has been talking about my apple cake and apple pie ever since we had made these plans to go apple picking two weeks ago. He even gave me the ever so subtle reminder to make sure I had the recipes handy.
I didn't have everything I needed for the pie, so I went with this super easy and delicious apple bundt cake.
Some of you might remember this recipe from last year, but I figured I would post it again since we are in the heart of apple season~
Here is what you will need:
1 cup of Vegetable Oil
1 1/2 cups of Granulated Sugar
3 Eggs
1 tsp of Vanilla
1 tsp of Cinnamon
1/4 tsp of Ground Nutmeg
2 Cups of Diced Apples
1 Cup of Chopped Walnuts(optional)if you omit the nuts, add a little extra apple
2 Cups of Flour
1 tsp of Salt
1 tsp of Baking Soda
Mix together the Oil, Sugar, Eggs, Cinnamon, Ground Nutmeng, and Vanilla. Then mix in the apples.
In a separate bowl sift the Flour, Salt, and Baking Soda. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet and mix until blended.
Pour into a Greased and Floured Bundt Pan and Bake at 350 Degrees for 40-45 minutes.
I cut this piece and photographed it while it was still hot.....
Oooey Goooey GOODNESS.....It was delicious!
I promise, if you like apples, you will love this cake.
Give it a try!
Enjoy the rest of your Sunday.

Not only does this sounds delicious, but those shots are absolutely amazing and making my mouth water!
I started making this last year, and it never lasted longer than a couple of days around here! Thanks for the update - I had almost forgotten about making it again this year!
That looks so delicious...only problem is that I can't seem to taste it through my screen!
Yum! I would love a piece right now with a steaming hot cup of coffee. I'm definitely going to try this recipe. Your pictures are making my mouth water.... ;-)
This looks delish! We are having company next weekend and this would be perfect for their visit to New England.
Thanks ~
Jo
Oh my! Beautiful pictures as always! But my goodness, that cake looks amazing! My sick babies made us have to postpone our apple orchard trip, so instead I had to settle for a chocolate cake! Can't wait to head up there soon!
Hope we can catch up soon!
hugs,
Janet
It's such a great tradition, isn't it? I love Sarah's little basket - filled with the spoils of her pickins.
What a fabulous and simple recipe. I have about 3 dozen apples, just sitting on my counter, calling out to be sliced and baked into something. Must try this one. We had our apple orchard adventure on Thursday this week. Love it!
And your pics - they're like little works of art. I love the angles and the interestingly shaped plate.
It was great to chat with you today, Lisa. I can feel "China mode" in your voice. (Grin)

I love the first picture! That little basket is perfect!
I just forwarded this post to Chef Daddy. He made apple crisp this weekend but we still have a few apples left!
Hope you have a great weekend! Talk to you in the morning!
This looks SO SO delicious. I wish I could make it gluten free for our family. Yum!
This time of year makes me miss living up north SO much I cannot even tell you. No apple orchards here.
Love these photos.
Oh, yummy! Do you think light olive oil would also taste nice? I love the nutmeg pic.

I gotta try this recipe! I may try to take Bri apple picking this year. I think she will have a ball! :)
Hope to catch up with you this week! Bri is back in school - that should make it much easier for us to chat. :)
Yum!!!! Ree and I think that looks so good (and she also said "Oooo mama, we have those shoes!!" Heh.)
I'll be over tomorrow. If you bake, I'll bring the coffee :)

Yum this is one of my favorite recipes that you have shared! I made it about 4 times last year and its on my list to bake this week. We had apple dumplings last night since we were at the orchard this week too, lol.
Hope everything is well for you and the travel preparations are going good! Hugs~
that cake looks divine and reminds me of one that my mom made when I was little. Isnt this weather great?! perfect weekend for an orchard trip :)
