My parents live very close to us, just a few minutes away, and quite honestly, I could not imagine life any other way. We have become accustomed to having them "just around the corner" and the kids love to stop in when we are out and about.
The girls especially love it when Mimi lets them play with all of the little trinkets that are sprinkled throughout the house.
Although there is plenty they could get into on the first floor, their most favorite things are up a flight of steps and through the bedroom doors.
They could spend hours going through her cool jewels and accessories....
while they bop around to the tunes coming from this funky old radio that she has out on display!
There were lots of big smiles as they caught glimpses of themselves
in the mirrors as they danced by.
Eventually they made their way to next bedroom to see what they could find.
My Mom recently transformed this guest room and when you walk in, you feel like you have entered a quaint beach bungalow.
The girls immediately spied the colorful sea glass and the big bowl of seashells
she had sitting out on the end table.
They counted, divided, and passed shells back and forth as the sunlight poured into the room. Add a little sand and water, and it would have surely felt like we were on the beaches of cape cod!!
They had such a fun afternoon playing with all of Mimi's treasures... they hated to leave, but we promised that we would be back soon for another visit.
Watching the girls that afternoon made me flashback to my own childhood memories of the "treasure hunts" my sister and I went on in our grandparents house. We loved every minute of it and like Reagan and Sarah, we also never wanted to leave when my parents said it was time to go.
This photoshoot was inspired by the gorgeous new Secret Garden Collection that my talented friend Robin is officially releasing today over at Red Thread Stitches. Be sure to stop by and see all of her beautiful new creations. The outfits the girls are wearing are just two of the options she is offering in her spring line. You can click HERE to browse her shop.
The soft and elegant hair pieces are my new found favs from Sophia Jane Boutique. I love the "Shabby" feel of the material and the sparkly jewels. The girls do too! If you are looking to accessorize your little princess, you have to check out Kimberley's pretty things.
You can view her boutique filled with all things girly by clicking HERE.

Those are the cutest outfits ever!!!! I love Sarahs hair-- it is getting long and I love how it hits right at the chin. It reminds me of my hair-- it is adorable but your girls are always adorable:)
grandma's do have the MOST wonderful items for little girls to ooh and aahh at!
Thank you so much Lisa!
I am just thrilled to see my hair pieces paired with something from Robin's shop. I love Red Thread Stitches.
Your girls are just stunning :) It makes my day whenever I see them wearing something from SJB.
You are a wonderful friend to me. Thank you for your support over the years :)
You're such a breath of fresh air Lisa...I truly look forward to your posts.
Lisa - love the photos of your beautiful girls in their gorgeous outfits and hair accessories. Wow! Your mom is a great decorator! Love the glimpses you shared!
Love everything about these photos! May I ask where your mom found that jewelry rack? Thanks!
Beautiful clothes! I bet my baby girl would look adorable in those prints as well.
What a charming post! And beautiful charming girls, too, as always! :)
The pics of your girls are so beautiful, Lisa! They leave me in awe....
Thank you so much for sharing your time and your talent to help me roll out my new line.
Your post brought a tear to my eye. I remember the joy of digging through the treasures in my Grandma's jewelry box. It was a special spent time with her, especially when she gave me a little trinket to take home. :)
I'm sure your girls will have wondering memories of Mimi's house!
Love and blessings,
Robin
Looking through your photos is always such a quality experience. The outfits are just gorgeous. How wonderful that the girls get to spend such lovely moments at your parents house. Love that radio! Thank you also for the time you always put into this friday link up.
Love their outfits..so stylish. Great that the girls can have so much fun at their Grandparents house.
Love this post Lisa! My kids adore going to Grandma's house to do the same exact thing. :-)
After looking at these photos, I now know where you get your sense of style and design. Your mom's home is beautiful. Her guest room looks like it belongs down here where I live. ;-)
As always your girls looks absolutely adorable. Wish Natalie still dressed like this. She no longer likes wearing anything girly, it's all jeans and t-shirts now. She won't dare where any of her MJ clothe. Drives me crazy.
Hope you have a fabulous weekend!
xoxo
The jewelry rack is actually a wrought iron towel rack. I have one in my kitchen. My mom decided to use hers to hold her bracelets. We bought them years ago. I think we got them at TJ Maxx or Home Goods.
Have a great Friday everyone!!!
Lisa
What fun and special times at Mimi's! Love these photos and how bright and springy the girls look in their fabulous outfits.
Happy weekend!

What an awesome grandma to have such a great room filled with treasures for her granddaughters! Linking up for the first time!
Such a sweet post. How nice that your parents live so close, what a blessing.

These pictures are so gorgeous (but yours always are!). I haven't been following your blog for that long yet, but already I know that your photography style is something I want to learn. I love the light, creamy tones in your images. Is it your editing, your just the way the light is at your part of the world? :-) Secondly I really like the way you dress you daughters for every photo shoot. And then (maybe the best part) is that your pictures are always so NATURAL. You just follow your girls with a camera and capture them as they are, wondering life.
Thanks for the inspiration, looking forward to seeing more!! :-)
Thank you Ansku!
I would say that it is a combination of the light and my editing......and yes, I really do just follow my girls with the camera and capture them as they are. It is not easy to tell a 5 and 2 year old what to do! They have minds of their own:)
Lisa
Oh they look so cute in those outfits!! And your mom's house was the perfect setting for them. I think I'd like playing with Mimi's trinkets too, especially all those fun bracelets. :)
Happy weekend, my friend!!!
your Mom has quite a talent for transforming a room! You did amazing job of capturing these cuties having fun!

Precious precious outfits and your girls are adorable!!! I ordered them for my girls for Easter!!! Thank you for sharing! XOXO
Stunning pictures Lisa and beautiful creamy light...just LOVE these. A grandmother's treasures are always close to the heart and make for lasting memories. Love the outfits and hair accessories :) xoxoxo
Your posts always leave me so inspired and give me a warm fuzzy feeling. :) Did you use a "haze" over these photos? Love them. :)
And I love Robin's outfits - she is amazing and so wonderful to work with. I just may have to order one of these outfits...
Eye Candy indeed!! These pictures are ALL THINGS SWEET!!! The natural sunlight on your pictures just melts me!! Your pictures, your style, your composition is something to be admired. The outfits couldn't be cuter!
And I love how Mimi lets them have fun with her treasures. So sweet.
Lovely light. Wish I had that kind of light pour into my house!

Your photo's are just gorgeous! Could Sarah and Reags be any cuter!!
My girls count down the days until Saturday when they know it's "We get to go to Grandma's house" day. So, so special.
LOVE Robin's new spring line, I ordered our dresses tonght.
YEA! A few minutes before midnight but I made it to this week's Favorite Photo Friday:)
Have a Wonderful Weekend!
God Bless,
Diane
Hi Lisa, LOVE these photos! What great memories!
Thanks for answering all our questions! Another question about the lighting - did you shoot these with or without flash? If you did not use flash, what ISO did you use and how high do you normally go to avoid flash but without the photos getting too grainy? Thank you!
I did not use flash in these photos, in fact I pretty much never use flash. I am what is considered a natural light photographer. I just went back and looked at my settings for these photos and it varied a little from photo to photo depending on where they were in relation to the light. The photos in the "beach room" were shot at lower ISOs.... it looked to vary between 200 and 320. That room had a lot more light. When they were in my Mom's bedroom playing with her jewelry and other things, the ISO was a little higher, 640.
My camera handles higher ISO's pretty easily.... but every camera is different. The photos I have been posting of the girls this winter are primarily indoors and I would say my ISO has gone up as high as 2000 in some of them that you have viewed over the past month or two!
I hope this answers your question!!!
Enjoy your weekend~
Lisa
PS. I did miss a question above..... TEENA, yes I did put a very slight haze on these photos to enhance the feel of the beautiful sunlight coming in the windows!
These pictures are amazing! What a sweet day of treasures and fun!
I am blessed to have my parents nearby too. Briana loves to look at my mom's jewelry. :D
Beautiful pictures, telling a happy story!
It is lovely that your parents are so close by, I'm sure they enjoy when you "stop in" just as much as the kids do.
It's still tugs at my heartstrings that my kids never got to meet my parents, as they both died so young that they only met 1 grandchild out of 16.
The girls outfits are fab! I will definitely visit Robin's site as a few of my friends have babies on the way!
A question on the bedspread in the first photo- it really looks like a handknit Aran in cotton yarn...is it?
Mimi, I am not sure, but I will find out for you. Have to ask my Mom:)
xo,
Lisa
Such timeless pictures! Just gorgeous!! :)
You're such a breath of fresh air Lisa...I truly look forward to your posts.
I'm in love with your pictures and girls!!! I am a pre adoptive mom, lovingly opening our hearts to a SN daughter from China. You site and others help me with this wait!! Our biggest barrier is financial so with are fundraising like crazy!! My question is the red thread site that you post the link to brings you to a link to a site all in Chinese, is there a different site? I am doing all my Christmas shopping from sites that support adoption. Thanks in advance! I also want to take your beginner photography course at some point. :)
